The Trouble With Goodbye/ The Moment We began Review (Bree)

Follow on Bloglovin

One night can change everything…

Two years ago, Leigh Anne Davis shocked everyone in tiny Fairhope, Georgia when she broke up with her wealthy boyfriend to attend an Ivy League university a thousand miles away. At school, she finds a happiness and independence she’s never known.

Until one terrifying night takes it all away from her.

With no place else to go, Leigh Anne heads home to reclaim her old life. A life she worked so hard to escape. On the outside, she seems like the same girl everyone has always known. But deep inside, she’s hiding a terrible secret.

That’s when she meets Knox Warner, a troubled newcomer to Fairhope. His eyes have the same haunted look she sees every day in the mirror, and when she’s near him, the rest of the world fades away. But being with Knox would mean disappointing everyone all over again. If she wants to save what’s left of her old life, she has no choice but to say goodbye to him forever.

Only, the trouble with goodbye is that sometimes it’s about courage and sometimes it’s about fear. And sometimes you’re too broken to know the difference until it’s too late

I got this book from Amazon because it was free, and I had book two so I wanted to try and start from the beginning. I have to say, it took some time for me to get into the book. The main character starts off so depressing with little will at all, the deeper into the book I read the stronger she became.Leigh Anne is a troubled girl who moves back home with her controlling mother. Wow, if my mother was as bad as her, I don't think I could have kept my mouth shut as long as I did. She meets Knox who she has to hide her relationship with because he has a troubled past and isn't part of her parent's plan for her perfect life. In all, the book was pretty average. I didn't feel any strong connection to the characters. The writing was average, the characters were average. The story line was average. This is why my review is going to be so short. I don't have much to say because there wasn't anything horrible or extraordinary about the book. But don't stop reading my review now! Tomorrow I will post my review about the second book in the series, The moment we began, and let's just say I enjoyed that book more!

My Rating 5 STARS!!!

My review

Let me start of by saying how much of a HUGE Colleen Hoover fan I am. Three years ago, I found slammed on kindle and have been obbsesed ever since. She is like the Nicholas Sparks of New Adult. With the perfect blend of romance, she always brings me to tears, I refused to read any reviews or comments about this book because I wanted to go into this book was a clear head. IT. BLEW. ME .AWAY!
Sydney is obsessed with Ridge and his protectiveness, his disability, and his raw talent. The romance between them starts off so innocent and by the end of the book you are rooting for each one with your hand over your head. Let's see I cried...
Then I read some more and cried again. Hoover always does that to me. She knows how to make a character so emotional that you can feel exactly who they are. oh, and the humor. She can make me laugh and cry at the same time. Damn Hoover you've got talent. I hate to keep this review short and sappy, but i can't give away to much, just go BUY BUY BUY BUY

 Now on to the spoilers....

While it Lasts by Abbi Glines Book Review

Set in the steamy coastal Alabama town of Sea Breeze, an interconnected group of older teens hook up, break up . . . and much, much more. Cage York has a free ride to college for baseball - or he did, until he got in trouble for drink-driving. Now he has to give in to his coach's demands and spend his summer baling hay. No hot babes in bikinis waiting to meet a Southern boy to make her vacation complete. Just him and the damned cows. Oh and an uptight, snarky brunette with the biggest blue eyes he's ever seen.

Eva Brooks planned out her life step by step when she was eight years old. Not once over the years had she lost sight of her goals. Josh Beasley, her next door neighbour, had been the centre of those goals. He'd been her first boyfriend at seven, her first kiss at ten, her first date at fifteen and her first tragedy at eighteen. The moment she'd received the phone call from Josh's mother saying he'd been killed along with four other soldiers just north of Baghdad, Eva's carefully planned life imploded in the worst way possible. Now she has to deal with the arrogant Cage York and his irritating smile.

But as the summer bailing hay rolls by, Cage and Eva learn that what they want (and need) may be something they never saw coming. (goodreads summary)

My rating: 4 star
My Review
As many of you know, I have been making my way through the Sea Breeze Novels. After Because of Low, I fell in love with Cage. What kind of man was he, why did he love Low so much? I couldn't wait to tear into this book. Unfortunately, this book fell below my expectations. Cage York is a sexy and interesting character, but we don't get to explore his past or what makes him- him. Eva. Well she is confusing and poor girl really needs to stop feeling sorry for herself. I just didn't like them as a couple. I guess because I was always rooting for Cage and Low in the back of my mind. But the book was still good! I give it four stars because I love Abbi and her character so much.

Twelve Steps Release Day Blitz

Twelve Steps
by Veronica Bartles
Release Date: 03/25/14

Book Summary:
Sixteen-year-old Andi is tired of being a second-class sibling to perfect sister Laina. There in Laina's shadow, Andi's only noticeable feature is her pretty awesome hair. And even that is eclipsed by Laina's perfect everything else.

When Andi’s crush asks her to fix him up with Laina, Andi decides enough is enough and devises a twelve-step program to wrangle the spotlight away from Laina. After all, great hair must count for something.

Step 1: Admit she’s powerless to change her perfect sister, and accept that her life really, really sucks. OK, maybe that's two steps in one.

Step 4: Make a list of her good qualities besides great hair. There have got to be at least three good qualities, right?

Step 7: Demand attention for more than just her shortcomings, and break out of her shell. Easier said that done, but worth the effort in the long-run.

When a stolen kiss from her crush ends in disaster, Andi finds that her prince isn’t as charming as she'd hoped, and realizes she may need a new program--perhaps with less steps!

As cracks in Laina’s flawless façade begin to show, the sisters work together to find a spotlight big enough for both to shine.

About the Author
As the second of eight children and the mother of four, Veronica Bartles is no stranger to the ups and downs of sibling relationships. (She was sandwiched between the gorgeous-and-insanely-popular older sister and the too-adorable-for-words younger sister.) She uses this insight to write stories about siblings who mostly love each other, even while they’re driving one another crazy.   When she isn’t writing or getting lost in the pages of her newest favorite book, Veronica enjoys knitting fabulous bags and jewelry out of recycled plastic bags and old VHS tapes, sky diving (though she hasn’t actually tried that yet), and inventing the world’s most delectable cookie recipes.  TWELVE STEPS is Veronica Bartles's first novel.

(Movie Review Monday) Muppets Most Wanted and Gravity

My rating 2 stars
My review
Let me start off by saying, I loved The Muppets Movie and our  family has been waiting for this movie to come out for months. We watched the 2011 movie over and over, even went as far as listening to the songs in the car. I am a HUGE Jason Segel fan. I fell in love with him in How I Met Your Mother. I even know the lines of Getting over Sarah Marshall and I love you, Man by heart. What Jason Segel did for the 2011 movie was wonderful. Unfortunately, Jason Segel made that movie what it was. Muppets Most Wanted lacked the clever songs with hidden humor. Example one?
"Life is full of highs with someone to stir
and someone to fry"
The only funny lyric in Muppets Most wanted? Just a clever joke that that Sequels always suck. And yes, it did. The plot for this movie was plain awful, and with most of the movie taking place in a Russian prison, it made me cringe in horror. Nothing like a kids movie with a prison plot. Ty Burrell was the only great thing about this movie.  This funny man made me laugh, even though his part in the movie was rather small. I give this movie 2 stars. Just because everything about this movie sucked. My husband and I almost fell asleep. If it wasn't for the kids mildly enjoying it, I would have given it 0 stars. So my review is simple and to the point. Don't waste your time.

My rating 3
My Review
After seeing such critical acclaim for this movie, I decided to check it out and see what it was all about. On first thought, the movie seemed interesting. I love space movies. The view was breathtaking, and I could imagine myself up there among the stars in space, living the life I always wanted. The technicalities of this movie were perfection. The scenery, and the props, it all looked so real and expensive! When it came to the plot, that was where it all went downhill. I kept thinking, this lady had months and months of training. How do you not know what to do if there is a disaster? This gal is struggling along the entire movie and giving up, doing the worst things. It was like a horror movie, when the characters do all the wrong things, and you scream at your T.V to tell the characters not split up or go into the woods. I did the same thing here! Without all the stupid mistakes, the movie wouldn't have been more that 10 minutes long. Watch this movie, if only for the view.

The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines Review

Summary
Getting a boy to fall head-over-heels in love with you isn’t easy. Especially when he’s been in love with your cousin for as long as you can remember.

Lana has lived her life in her cousin’s shadow. Ashton always made perfect grades, had tons of friends, and looks model-perfect. And she’s always had Sawyer Vincent—the only boy Lana’s ever wanted—wrapped around her finger. But now things are different. Lana has a chance to make Sawyer see her, and she’s taking it. If only he’d get over Ashton—because Lana is sick of second-best.

Sawyer’s heart is broken. He’s lost his best girl to his best friend. And then Lana comes to town. Ashton’s cousin has always been sweet and soft-spoken, but now she’s drop-dead gorgeous as well. Sawyer doesn’t know if Lana can heal his broken heart, but spending time with her might at least make Ashton jealous.

What starts as a carefree fling becomes a lusty game of seduction. Sawyer and Lana may have different motives, but their scintillating hookups are the same kind of steamy

My Rating:5
My Review:
Wow! Abbi Glines has done it again!  I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. Abbi has written a wonderful tale about high school and the woes of lover. Sawyer is in love with Ash, doesn't think he will ever get over her, then here comes Lana,Ash's cousin, who has been in love with Sawyer for years. Now that him and Ash are broken up, she is ready to make her move. The only problem? Will Sawyer ever let Ash go long enough to love Lana? This book hits all the high notes of being a new adult in love. The jealousy, the flirtation, the fear, she writes it all so well I even reminisced about my own yesteryear's (a decade ago! I can't believe it!) You could actually feel Sawyer's pain as he had to watch his brother and Ash together. The characters were well developed and the storyline was fast paced. I really don't have anything bad to say about this book, which never happens! All I can say is, pick up this book, and read it!!!!

Jet Review

Summmary
With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes. She’s afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.

Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.

Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?

My rating- 5 star
My review:
Jet is a story about a couple who aren’t a different as they seem to think. Ayden is a country gal from Kentucky with a past that she isn’t proud of and Jet is a rock and roll musician that every girl dreams of falling in love with. They are living as roommates trying to keep a platonic relationship, but still having to deal with these romantic feelings that they try and hide from each other. I can say, without a doubt, that I LOVED this book. Jay Crownover has to be one of the best writers out there. Her stories always come out clean, well edited and flow so seamlessly and her characters are so diverse. You can tell that she has a flair for writing what she loves, and she knows these characters from the inside out. Even the back story of each character is intriguing. I love that each story does include the other characters, so it feels like a continuation of every other book from another point of view. Crownover creates a story with new adults, put in adult situations, that ACTUALLY act like adults. Does that make any sense? So many times I see writers who try and write books with adult characters, but the writing is so immature- not the case here! Sure Ayden can be a bit frustrating at times, afraid to open herself to hurt, but after learning about her past who can blame her? These are completely flawed characters who need relationships to help make them a better person. The best kind! Can’t wait until book four comes out! 5 stars for this wonderful book!

The Breeders by Katie French Review

Sixteen-year-old Riley Meemick is one of the world's last free girls. When Riley was born, her mother escaped the Breeders, the group of doctors using cruel experiments to bolster the dwindling human race. Her parents do everything possible to keep her from their clutches-- moving from one desolate farm after another to escape the Breeders' long reach. The Breeders control everything- the local war lords, the remaining factories, the fuel. They have unchecked power in this lawless society. And they're hunting Riley.

When the local Sheriff abducts the adult members of her family and hands her mother over to the Breeders, Riley and her eight-year-old brother, Ethan, hiding in a shelter, are left to starve. Then Clay arrives, the handsome gunslinger who seems determined to help to make up for past sins. The problem is Clay thinks Riley is a bender-- a genderless mutation, neither male nor female. As Riley's affection for Clay grows she wonders can she trust Clay with her secret and risk her freedom?

The three embark on a journey across the scarred remains of New Mexico-- escaping the Riders who use human sacrifice to appease their Good Mother, various men scrambling for luck, and a deranged lone survivor of a plague. When Riley is shot and forced into the Breeder's hospital, she learns the horrible fate of her mother—a fate she'll share unless she can find a way out

My rating: 3 stars
My review:
Breeders is a story about a young girl living in a futuristic America, due to a chemical the ability to bear females was lost by the population. I picked it up because I love Dystopian books, and it looked promising.
When Riley's home is ambushed by the law, her mother is taken to the breeders and she is desperate to find a way to get her mother back. With the help of her "enemy" a young boy named Clay, she sets out to get her mother back, This book is suspensful and has a great concept although I am not "wowed" by the presentation.
Here are a few reasons why, and they contain very little spoilers.
1. The actual premises to this world is not told until nearly halfway through the book. This leaves the reader wondering what the heck is going on during the first part of the book. It is confusing.
2. The character descriptions are vague. For example, her younger brother’s age is not told until towards the end. I was wondering the entire book how old he is. Is he 7 or 5 or is he older around 10? He is only stated as her younger brother. For a young child, knowing his age is crucial. Looks are also lightly touched on.
3. The world doesn't feel believable. The book states that by the time the government figured out what was going on, at the next census, it was too late and the damage had already been done. One census is not long enough to cause irreversible damage and what about the rest of the world? It never tells about if they were affected as well, but the book leads us to believe that they aren't. Can we not rebuild with other countries? We can pick baby gender right now, though it is done in a lab, why can this not be done in the book?
Though the concept sounds great, in reality, I don't think the breeding issues were well explained or thought out.
4. Riley acts like a 10 year old. Though the writer is trying to make her out to be this strong heroine, she doesn't play out the role well on paper. She complains, whines, and makes terrible decisions that ultimately cause problems. She even throws things in the face of the boy who is helping her, Clay. She is quite immature and rude about it, and growing up in such a harsh world and reality, I don't understand why this character isn't more mature.
6. When they are rescued from the Breeders, they wait until they get to their destination before they take out her tracking device in the back of her neck, in what world does this happen? So they can track you all the way to where you are staying and then come get you? No way, that should have been the first thing to go.
There were other things that made no sense and were very irritating, but overall. I finished the book, it was a good storyline, the writing could be clearer and the characters could be better developed. I don’t think I am going to be reading book two, but a nice little read nonetheless. Click the link below to buy from amazon

You're gonna hear me roar!!!!!!!!

As most of you know, I fall off the broken path on the weekends. Recently, I did a series about books we loved when we were younger. Tonight, I feel the need to blog about life. Recently, I realized that I am not happy with my life. For the past few years, I have lived my life for others. I did and led my life in a way that would please others, this left me stressed, tired, and worst of of not a happy camper to be around. I have decided to quit college. School was never for me, and it never will be. An associates' degree is enough to get me by in life, but a 4 year degree will not help me do anything but be in debt. I don't need a degree to do what I love. I am an artist, I love uniqueness on all levels. I admire a piece of work inked on someone's arm, the words in a brokenhearted poem, the beauty of a raw picture. I can't sit still or do the same thing for to long. I am all the time changing my makeup style, my hairstyle and color, my fashion sense, but the past year or so I became an entirely different person. I want to get back to who I want to be. I am always that character who is indecisive and doesn't care about money or what other people think. I'm nosy, I cry during sad movies, and I am a hippy at heart. Now I say one thing and do another, I worry about what people say, and I am so unhappy I don't even wear makeup. This entire week I wore no makeup, yes seriously! NO MAKEUP! That girl isn't me, the one who is so unhappy she doesn't even care in the mornings. The girl who is so stressed out that she eats all the time and can no longer fit into her clothes. So here I am bearing my soul to the world because I need a reason to change. I need a reason to be the wife and mother I should be. I need to be me and not feel like a failure because I am. Hear me roar!!!!!!!!!!
I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything ( lyrics from roar by katy perry)
