I read this book in a span of five hours. Huddled over my kindle, late at night, watching over sick child, unable to sleep, unable to put it down. This story follows Blythe and Chris, two lost souls whose pasts and futures are entangled together. After the death of her parents, she is unable to let anyone in, that is until she meets Chris. Chris helps her learn to live again, and don't forget he gets help from his close knit siblings.Chris' brother, Sabine, has to be my favorite character, his whit and dramatics had me cracking up in bed. This novel touches on dark subjects (no spoilers) that ultimately show how parents much parents shape and affect their children, even the lack of their presence affects a child deeper than can be explained. This is my first novel by Park, and she did a wonderful job creating likable, believable characters who tugged my heart into their love story. About 70% of the way into the book I told myself ' one last chapter, then i am going to bed' then I hit the climax of the novel. It made me cry out, "what in the world is Chris doing?" then I sobbed into my pillow hoping and resisted the urge to skip to the end. Oh, but how happy I am that I waited, because the story unfolded nicely. Five stars to Park, for writing this! Last night's sleeplessness was so worth it!

BREE'S REVIEW REPOST FROM FEB. 23RD

The Flat-Outs (Jessica Park Street Team)

Okay, so many of you already know that I am a huge bookaholic. An addiction I'll never kick, and, to be honest, I never want to.  I was first introduced to Jessica's books about a year ago. Believe it or not, it was a random Kindle search!  I didn't even think to Facebook stalk her * cue the scary music* until earlier this year when I saw her on a Facebook Takeover. She is hilarious online! Anyway, I am on her new street team so prepared yourself for more Jessica posts. (Yes, I know I  talk about her books enough as it is.)

How Jessica's books have changed my life....

*clears throat*

Reason #1: Jessica taught me some awesome recipes. I now make snacks called Unicorn Poop and drinks called Old Fashioned. How very Mad Men meets My Little Pony.

Reason #2: Thanks to Jessica, I have a spring roll addiction.. I make them at least once a week. I firmly believe that everyone should have a spring roll at least once in your life. I'm not talking fried spring rolls that you get at the buffet. I'm talking the cold noodle kind. (Do you detect a food pattern so far? Yes, I have gained weight this past year. Do I blame Jessica? Nah.)

Reason #4: I now use the term "Britch Slap"....oops I meant "Bitch Slap" in excess.

Reason #5: I now firmly embrace my nerdy shirts (Thanks Matt!) and buy them for my husband more. (Did I ever tell you about the time I bough my husband a shirt that read, I'm big in Europe. He's a big, tall guy! He wore it for two weeks before someone told him it was referring to the male nether regions. *Face palm*)

Reason #5: Only Jessica can write a character as quirky speaking as Celeste and not have it sound odd and snobby. I spent the entire book wishing I could speak as perfectly as Celeste did.

Reason #6: “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”  (Flat-Out Celeste, Park) Yes, this quote really means something to everyone.

Reason #7: Sabin....I won't say more. 

Reason #8:  Cardboard cutouts have a new meaning. (If you are confused, guess you'll have to read Flat-Out Love)

Okay, I'm sure I could come up with a dozen more reasons, but frankly I am Unicorn pooped out after this hectic week. And.... To show you how Unicorn pooped I am, why don't you look through my Reason numbering order one more time. Yes, it's screwed up, but I'm to lazy to fix it. God, I guess I could have fixed it with the time It took me to write this explanation. Damn it!!!

WOW! WOW! WOW! Talk about a book hangover!
I received an ARC of this book last week. After tormenting myself for a few days, I pulled it out to read. I had been anticipating this book for so long, I dreaded reading it only because I knew it would be really over. Jessica Park always writes flawed characters that people can relate to. Her ability to mix humor, love, and realistic situations are what make her goods so good. Celeste is not your normal 18 year old. She speaks so rustic (but to everyone else she speaks oddly)and I loved it. It was a mixture of old-time, proper grammar and genius mannerisms. She does not speak in contractions (which I am praising by not using contractions in my review!), and you can feel her struggle to be normal and fit in. Justin is a bit older, a bit scatter-brained, and has learned that it is okay not to fit into society's molds.
Park gives us an emotional roller coaster of a ride in the seat next to Celeste. We get to be there as she makes college decisions, learns about love, and makes friends. It has been a while since I have found an riveting book that makes me cry, one with a beautiful story that I have to share with all my friends. The writing was flawless, the story was humorous,and we even get glimpses of Matt and Julie with a little bit of Flat-Finn. I hope Jessica gets her next book out sooner rather than later because I don't know how much longer I can wait for my Park fix!
